Creating Woodlands – learning from the experinces of others
Tuesday 9th April. 6-7pm
If your community woodland group is wondering how to create a new woodland, this is the virtual session for you. Join us to hear how two woodland groups created their own new woodlands, and the processes they went through to get there.
We will hear from:
- John Hitchcock - SEAchange (Slains Environment Action for Change), Collieston, Aberdeenshire. John will discuss: grants for land purchase; grants for forest planting; the interface with community (the ups and downs); planting (commercial v volunteers); the glyphosate debate; the delights of success and the developing passion for trees.
- Becca Long and Tasha Fyffe from the Isle of Eigg Heritage Trust. Becca and Tasha will discuss: how they went about creating their woodland with help from different organisations; the process of bringing Sandamhor woodland creation project to life (10ha wood); about the trees planted having been grown in the island tree nursery and planted by islanders, giving the islanders more ownership of the wood.
Both woodlands are keen to share their individual stories to support you in your understanding of where to begin, and what is involved. They would be delighted that you join them to hear more.
