If you want to learn traditional skills, use your hands, and create something wonderful, this one-day introduction to blacksmithing is for you! We’ll use a charcoal-powered forge (using charcoal we make on site) and handpowered bellows to create the heat we need, and you’ll learn some some key basic techniques, including lighting and maintaining the fire, tapering, bending, and twisting. Throughout the day, you’ll make a poker and a hook, which you’ll get to take away with you, along with the skills you’ve learned.
Tickets for this workshop cost £80. Workshops take place at Green Aspirations, Gartur, nr Port of Menteith Stirling, Scotland, FK8 3JY. You’ll arrive on site by 10am, and be directed to workshop. From there, one of our experienced trainers will lead you through the workshop. All metal and tools are provided. The day finishes by 4pm. Please bring lunch - you are welcome to cook over our campfire. We provide tea and coffee and snacks!
For blacksmithing, please wear comfortable clothes made from natural fibres and, if you have them, steel-toe capped shoes or boots. We will provide safety glasses.
