Participants on this 1-day course will learn how to make a traditional woven hazel hurdle from hazel sticks cut from coppice sites in Central Scotland.
You’ll learn all parts of the process, including: selecting and preparing hazel rods for the different parts of a hurdle; splitting the rods; setting the uprights, or zales; weaving; and finishing. Participants will take their own hurdles home, each hurdle measuring approx. 6ft by 3ft.
Tickets for this one-day event are £120. The workshop takes place at Green Aspirations, Gartur, nr Port of Menteith Stirling, Scotland, FK8 3JY. All materials and tools are included. The workshop takes place over one day, running around 10am to 4pm, on our site in Stirlingshire. Tea, coffee and snacks are provided throughout the day but please bring your own lunch. You are welcome to cook over the fire.
