Hello everyone,
I am a French journalist and I would like to write an article about Scotland’s rewilding campaign. To this end, I would like to meet Scots who wish to build, or who have already built, sustainable cabins with a low environmental impact. I would also like to talk more broadly about the rewilding of Scotland and the projects that have sprung up around it.
My aim is therefore to show that this kind of climate-friendly project is possible. And perhaps to inspire the French government?
I will be in Scotland for a month from mid-May to mid-June. I would therefore like to meet some people during my visit at this time, if possible. I’ll be travelling from Edinburgh, via Glasgow, Fort William, the Isle of Skye, Gairloch, Inverness and Ballater. If you’re on my route or in the vicinity of these towns, that would be great. I can also adjust my itinerary if necessary.
Thank you
Alice
Bonjour Alice,
Je parle francais parce we j’habitais en Mayenne pour 6 ans.
I live near Ayr , At Sundrum Castle estate , 1000m2 of mature woodland . My architect will build a 25 m2 cabin all off grid and standing on larch pillars to preserve the ground underneath. The house will be hidden in the woodland to lessen impact and provide security. Just purchased and submitting planning permission now. No access for cars as I am a serious cyclist .
I would be happy to help you if this is the kind of project you search.
Kind regards,
Alex Cameron
Oh Alex I’d love to see your plans - looking to try and do something similar in Shetland and have done so now for two years or more… Planning dept has been major hurdle…
Oh, how lucky that you speak French! I’d be delighted to meet you during my stay in Scotland. From Glasgow, I can get to Ayr in about an hour by bus. Here’s my email address, in case you’d like to get in touch so we can arrange a meeting : droguealice4@gmail.com
I can’t share everything but the key is to have a low eco footprint and build between trees , usually a hidden aspect from road that blends in using wood for construction in similar colours, no paint! I am a cyclist and mentioned that my site will not have driveway or car. Only accessible on foot or bike. Off grid is best and latest wood burner . I have enough fallen wood to last two , three years!
The more you show a respect for nature and keeping your land as mother nature would like, the more the planners would agree.
