Research on coppice-with-standards - call for interview participants!

Hi all coppicing-friendly folk!

I’m Rachel, a PhD researcher at the University of Edinburgh, and I am currently carrying out a small research project on coppice with standards as a form of woodland management. To add practical knowledge into the literature review, I will be carrying out a handful of interviews (online or over the phone) to understand more about the environmental impacts and gather silvicultural top tips from those with first-hand experience of coppice with standards management.

The findings will be used to help inform setting up a pilot of converting a mature oak stand into coppice with standards at an estate in the west of Scotland. It will also provide a starting point for further MSc research projects on the topic.

If you are someone with experience in managing coppice-with-standards (or know others in this realm) and may be interested in sharing your coppicing wisdom with me through a 30-45min chat, then please do contact me at: R.T.Orchard@sms.ed.ac.uk - If so, please let me know when you would be available to speak (ideally in the next couple of weeks) and feel free to ask questions or queries!

Many thanks for supporting this research and I look forward to sharing the results in due course!

Best wishes,

Rachel Orchard
